BlackBerry today revealed the first official images of its new Android-powered Priv smartphone.

In an attempt to “satisfy the curiosity out there,” BlackBerry’s Eric Lai posted three photos to the BlackBerry blog, with the promise of more images, videos, and details in the coming weeks.

Following a number of leaks, the Canadian phone maker on Fridayconfirmed plans to launch a flagship sliding smartphone running Google’s Android mobile OS. The Priv is expected for release later this year, and features a Galaxy S6 Edge-like sloping screen.

But CEO John Chen’s recent interview with Business News Network did little to instill confidence in consumers, who watched the company chief call his new handset a “Google” phone, and struggle to open the Chrome browser.

Still, the Internet’s interest in the upcoming device hasn’t waned, and Lai thinks he knows why.

“Privacy

[is] a fast-disappearing privilege in the modern world,” he said, citing Chen’s recent remarks. “The same goes for productivity.

“Somewhere along the way, most smartphones evolved from tools into toys, with vendors prioritizing fun over work,” Lai continued. “With Priv’s software enhancements, physical keyboard and oversized screen, all enabled by the slider form factor, we’re bringing privacy, productivity, and, oh yes, some sexy, back.”

That sex appeal is on display in BlackBerry’s initial photos—a front-angle view pictured above, and an open profile to the left. Neither highlights anything we haven’t seen leaked online.

Last week, Internet tipster @evleaks tweeted the “Priv” name, while Vietnam-based Ba Minh Duc recently posted to his Facebook page a device he claimed is the new smartphone.

And while BlackBerry remains mum about specific details, reports have tipped the inclusion of the messaging app Hub, as well as an 18-megapixel camera and Chromecast support.
